Dear users, dear authors,
what material do you prefer for crochet hook handles? Do knitting needles not need a handle?

I prefer very simple crochet hook handles made of hard plastic.
For knitting needles, a handle would be counterproductive, since you always have multiple stitches on the needle when knitting. The same applies to Tunisian crochet and Tunisian crochet hooks.

I love the black crochet hooks from PRYM
—I’ve bought five of each size—but I’m constantly looking
for them. It’s a bit like with socks in the washing machine… they disappear as if by magic…

When it comes to crochet hooks, I also like those slightly thicker (ergonomic?) plastic handles; those thin metal hooks are much harder on the hand.
For knitting, I prefer bamboo needles—they feel nice and warm and soft.

When it comes to crochet hooks, I also prefer these plastic or rubberized handles. They’re better for my joints than the thin metal crochet hooks from back in the day.

As for knitting needles (I knit every now and then), I prefer the acrylic ones. They come in such great colors. For me, it has to be colorful.

For my crochet hooks, I prefer a wooden handle. Some plastic handles get sticky over time, and I also try to avoid plastic. However, I still use a few crochet hooks from my grandma—they have hard plastic handles, but some of them are over 40 years old.

When it comes to wooden handles, there are round ones that are slightly thicker than the hook itself, and others that are quite a bit thicker. And sometimes I like the ones with flat handles. Here’s a picture of my favorite handles. I have all these types in several sizes.

I like the ones with wooden handles best....
In the photo above, the crochet hook with the flat wooden handle is one of my favorites.... and I once received a set with rubberized handles as a gift; those feel pretty good in my hand, too.
I like to use the one with the metal handle when I need to pick up stitches from a knitted piece, especially when there are a lot of them. When patch knitting, for example, I pick them up and leave them on the crochet hook—mine can hold about 15–20 stitches—and only then do I transfer them to the knitting needle... The stitches don’t get too loose, and it makes counting easier 😁
The highlight of my crochet hooks is a little treasure over 50 years old with a handle hand-turned by my grandpa... though it’s a very fine crochet hook—size 1–1.5, I think—probably for handkerchiefs or lace...

Prym? No way!! Unfortunately, those are the ones that all fall apart... they get extremely sticky!! Of all brands, that one. A huge disappointment.

I also like crochet hooks with plastic or wooden handles. I don’t like rubber—they often get a little sticky.

If crochet hook handles get sticky, you can rub them with (baby) powder every now and then—that’ll stop them from sticking.
