Sewing Pants

I just took my measurements and realized that the pants pattern is a little too big for me :-) Even though I made it for myself only about 14 months ago. But if I go by the measurements on the pattern and compare them to my own, I have almost 40 cm too much room in the pants pattern :-) Okay, that includes the so-called “ease,” meaning the extra width that lets you move comfortably in your pants, but I still have to take quite a bit off the pattern so I don’t end up flopping around in them ;-):-). What’s already laid out here is the back pant piece.
I made the weights lying on the pattern piece myself; they’re especially useful for delicate fabrics where pins might poke holes. But I also like to use them for all the fabric pieces I cut out.

Best regards, Inge

What did you use to fill the weights?

With bird sand, Veronika, that's ideal for it, and nothing trickles out because I double-stitched the edges.

The pants are cut just like the shirts; tomorrow I’ll start sewing them :-)

Almost 40 cm too much? Then you’ve lost weight. That would definitely be very noticeable. Good thing you measured again. It would be a shame to waste the fabric. Making adjustments afterward is much harder than measuring carefully beforehand.

I hope you have lots of fun sewing the shirts and pants.

Ina, I’ve lost about 25 kilos since 2019. It’s going slowly, but it is going down. Sometimes it goes up a little again, but the trend is downward, and that’s what I’m focusing on in the long term. But I still have a good 30–35 kilos ahead of me before I can say, yes, now it’s right.

Best regards, Inge

That’s really impressive, dear Inge! 25 kg lighter since 2019—that’s a lot. That’s several dress sizes over time. You really HAVE to keep sewing yourself new clothes :-)

Yeah, exactly, Ina. I went from a size 60/62 down to a 48/50 during that time—so you can imagine what a size I used to be.I didn’t like myself anymore and didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin at all, but that was all due to my surgeries and the resulting limited mobility. Still, I fought my way out of it. That’s also one reason why I’m always needing new clothes—I have cardigans that are so big you could throw me through them by now, or I could even take a roommate with me inside them ;-) :-)

Love, Inge
