What is the maximum number of knitting needles you can use at the same time?

Is there a limit to the number of knitting needles you can use at the same time for a knitting project?

Well, I think: as few as possible! That’s why I don’t like knitting with a set of double-pointed needles—I prefer to use circular needles instead. Now there are the short Casy Trio circular needles. You only have 3 needles, and they’re flexible. I get along great with them. 

I agree with Ruth on this. The fewer, the better. 

I prefer to use circular needles, but if that’s not possible, I try using 3 needles from a set of double-pointed needles. 

I’ll use 4 if the number of stitches doesn’t fit on 3 needles, but I try the circular needle first. 

I don’t really use more than that at once. 

For socks, I still use 4 needles—that works. I once tried using 6 needles, but it didn’t work out; something always slips off.

I prefer to knit socks with the Crazy Trio. If that doesn’t work, I switch to a set of double-pointed needles (5 needles). If there are a lot of stitches in a round, I use circular needles; for small pieces with few stitches, I distribute them across 3 needles. The only time I really get the needles mixed up is right at the beginning, when there are 6 or 8 stitches in a round.

I use 5 needles for socks. It’s really annoying when the stitches slip off the needle while casting on.

For everything else, I use circular needles. I can only imagine what it’s like to work with more needles. And then there are also auxiliary needles and cable needles.
