Dear users, dear authors,
Who has the biggest ball of yarn?

I’m currently working my way through 500-gram balls of yarn; the blanket for my husband used up 500 grams on the increasing side, and now I’m using the second 500 grams as I decrease. For the red stripes in between, I used about 100 grams from the 500-gram ball for both stripes; the rest of the red yarn went toward hand and leg warmers and a hat.

Best regards, Inge

Oh, I can’t compete with that. For my last project, it was 100 grams per ball.

More than 100 grams is pretty rare. Those are usually special offers intended for a shawl or scarf.

No, I can’t top that either; I only have one yarn cake left, but a smaller one, 150 or 200 g, I think.

This is the first of the balls of yarn I knitted up; now I’m already decreasing again and have another huge whopper like that lying next to me :-)
In the top picture, there’s already a good 20 cm more on it since the photo was taken

Best, Inge

Mine isn’t any bigger than 500 g either. They have such great colors right now again...

I can’t compete with that either.
My biggest ball weighs 150 g (sock yarn).

Do you like these giant balls? It always motivates me when I’m about to use up another ball. With smaller balls, you have more flexibility regarding the amount of yarn you buy, and they’re also easier to handle.

Recently, I did a little research on knots and wondered whether giant skeins have more knots than smaller ones because they have a longer yardage. I asked the manufacturer about this for a 400g / 1000m skein. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive a reply.

But maybe it’s the other way around: if you need fewer skeins, you have fewer problems.
