Repurpose old towels / upcycle a towel

Dear users, dear designers,
what do you do with old towels?

So far, I’ve used old towels for my painting and concrete projects. And in the garden, when I’m trimming my boxwood shrubs.

I’ve never tried upcycling them this way before, but I don’t actually have any in my stash either.

I’m curious to see what ideas will come up. 

My dog “gets” my old towels 😁
I need at least two to get her somewhat “clean” after a walk. I’ve never had a dog that gets so “muddy” while walking.... She has to step in every single mud puddle. That’s when towels really come in handy. 

We used to use old towels for our dog, but since we don’t have one anymore, they just end up as cleaning rags, painting rags, and things like that.
My mom used to sew stuffed animals out of them, but only a few times.

This is what I made from worn-out towels: a beach towel for my granddaughter, a
bathroom runner, and two pot holders

If the terry towels aren’t too worn out yet, I sew them into makeup remover pads. There’s a lot of demand for them among my relatives, and it’s sustainable, too.

I use old towels for dyeing my hair—that way, it doesn’t matter if I spill some dye. Or I put them in the cat carrier; if there’s an accident during the trip, I just throw them away.

My niece, who volunteers at an animal shelter, always gets my old towels—first, she uses them for another season in the garden, for her kids and their friends at the wading pool. After that, they’re put to use at the animal shelter. 

I sew dog bathrobes from old shower towels and toys from smaller towels.
