So, now I have sewn the bag with the sewing machine too, and it went better than I thought; okay, I did spend days thinking about how to do it. [image removed]
First, cut everything out as shown in the video, including the iron-on interfacing, then I sewed it together about a presser-foot width from the edge.
Sew the first two narrow, cut-apart hexas together at the
narrow point and sew them onto one outer hexa; the
opposite side is sewn the same way. Now place the part sewn
like this flat on the intended lining fabric and cut it out; that way
it fits exactly and there is no need for a lot of calculating, etc. Now the
body of the bag can be sewn together: the two narrow pieces need to be
joined to the opposite hexa, and then the lower
seam closed; this has to be done on both sides. The
lining is done the same way. When both parts, bag and lining,
have been sewn together, you can now sew them together right sides together, and catch the
handles in between. Don’t forget the turning opening in the lining.
I included a strap with a carabiner there, so I can attach my wallet
and keys, because I did not add an inside pocket.
Before you sew in the lining, don’t forget to attach a closure;
I added a magnetic closure.
This method is easier and faster than sewing by hand, and above all less painful for me.
Best, Inge
