Dear users, dear authors,
what do you do with fabric scraps?

Hi Josefa,
I like to sew little things out of them—from hair ties and small pouches to infinity scarves, hats, or headbands :).

Sometimes you can even incorporate nice scraps into larger projects with panels, or use them for patchwork :).

Best regards,
Sonja

I sewed some of my Easter decorations using lots of small scraps. Just make a cardboard template in the shape of an egg or a bunny, cut two pieces of fabric to fit, and sew them together. Decorate with scraps of trim, beads, embroidery, or whatever else you have on hand, add a hanging ribbon, and you’re done.
I collect even smaller scraps—the kind that aren’t even big enough for an egg—in a bag; they’ll be used as stuffing for teddy bears and the like.

I use them to make designs on my gift bags—even small scraps work just fine. I’ve also made doll clothes before.

I save almost all my fabric scraps. With three grandchildren, there’s always a way to use them: for doll clothes, for crafts, and to practice sewing.

Since I love sewing quilts, I don’t have any scraps. Scraps are valuable raw materials. Very small scraps are turned into greeting cards, quiet books, etc.

What are quiet books?

Quiet books are tactile books for children. You can incorporate lots of activities into them—tying bows, counting, learning colors. Everything is nice and soft and personalized.

You can also use fabric scraps to sew these sensory blankets for the elderly or even for children. I’ve already sewn quite a few of them for the nursing home where my mother used to live.

Do you need to reinforce the tip there?

No, Josefa, you don’t have to—it’ll hold up just fine as is. I’ve had the gray one, just like the green-and-colorful case, for several years now; today I just sewed the two red ones.

Best regards, Inge
