Can you scale up a crochet pattern for a top?

I’m pretty new here.
Crocheting is my favorite, but I also think knitting and embroidery are great!
My question for you: can I change a crochet pattern for a top from size 44, for example, to size 54?
If so, how, and how do I calculate that for the stitches I need to decrease?

It’s best to contact the author of the pattern.

It’s hard to say anything without knowing the pattern.

Actually, you can recalculate almost anything based on the gauge, but unfortunately I can’t tell you more off the top of my head.

I can’t contact the publisher of the pattern because it’s a bit older and came from a magazine.
I know how to crochet a gauge swatch, but I’m not quite good enough to figure out how to scale it up based on that!
It’s a shame when you’re carrying a few extra pounds :(

Hi Isabella,
I do a gauge swatch and count the stitches over 10 cm, then simply multiply that by the number of cm I need.
For the openings, I follow a pattern I’ve had for years that fits me well.
