Dear users, dear authors,
I read in a women’s magazine that you can save water and energy by using dry shampoo. Would that be an option for you?
Even though women’s magazines are discussing this, I find it kind of strange.
It’s only suitable for people with oily scalps.
So it’s not for me.
But I don’t need to wash my hair as often anyway, because my hair and scalp are naturally dry.
It’s amazing where men and women are now expected to cut back. The strangest suggestions keep popping up—ones that even encroach on our privacy. I think such personal matters should be left up to each individual. The whole “what else can we save?” discussion is just starting to get on my nerves.
It makes me wonder how much water and energy are actually used in the production of dry shampoo? Not to mention the avoidable consumption of resources and waste. Financially, it probably isn’t worth it either.
It’s surely just advertising for the manufacturers.
I actually use dry shampoo, but I’ve been doing so for years.
I have—once again—long hair, which is also very thick. Washing and drying my hair—I easily have to set aside an hour for that. And often enough, I only have that time once a week, sometimes even just once every 10 days. So sometimes I just have to resort to dry shampoo.
And if anyone’s turning up their nose right now: no, I’m neither dirty nor do I smell 😉—it’s just that washing my hair is something I don’t have to do that often.
I think this ad was more about attracting new customers.
I’ve been using hair soap for a long time—it comes in small paper packaging, so that’s my way of helping reduce waste.
My first thought was: what about our mountain of trash, and how much energy is used to make dry shampoo? So that’s not an option for me. I’m sticking with hair soap.
I didn’t mean to disparage dry shampoo in general or talk anyone out of using it. If someone feels they need it, they should go ahead and use it.
It’s just not a way to save, really.
Best regards
Tatjana.
Dry shampoo is definitely pretty handy, but not every hair and skin type can use it. That’s just a general point.
But I was only referring to the potential savings, and even I’m sick of hearing some of that nonsense.
Another topic is electric cars—something I just can’t wrap my simple, naive mind around either. Electricity is getting scarcer and more expensive all the time, but then we’re supposed to plug tens of millions of electric cars into the charging cable? But I don’t have to understand everything, do I?
I remember dry shampoo from my grandma—that must have been in the late ’70s.... After that, it “somehow” faded from view. I suppose there were reasons for that. I don’t think you can actually save anything with it... “That little bit” you might personally save is at least doubled in production.... “They” come up with the most absurd ideas for how to bring these products back into the spotlight....
“We appeal to people’s desire to save money, and then the €€€ flow back into our pockets”....
I’ve always been frugal, and I’m not about to change that now. I wouldn’t know where else I could cut back....
That’s the thing—the potential for savings is a very personal matter, and not everyone can put every suggestion into practice. It’s true; with some of them, I’d also be incredibly curious to know whether they actually live by what they’re preaching.
And by now I know that all of this can change or shift very quickly. My husband was the “Neanderthal” in our household his whole life—the meat-eater with mammoth portions. Now he hardly eats anything at all, preferring just a piece of bread or a pastry or something like that; my grocery expenses have dropped dramatically despite rising prices.
On the other hand, we heat the house more because he hardly moves, so naturally he tends to feel the cold more.
