Dear users, dear authors,
what is DK yarn?
I found this here, in the size information and in the material.

DK is a designation for the weight of the yarn. DK yarn is a relatively light yarn that should be worked with a size 4–4.5 crochet hook. Other yarn weight designations include Aran (slightly thicker), Bulky (even thicker), Lace (thinner), etc.

Oh wow. Thanks.
I finally asked Google, and Google says it’s called double-knit yarn.

But you don’t see that term very often, do you?
Or have I just never noticed it before?

That’s probably because it’s used more in the English-speaking world.
In Germany, people often give the yardage or the needle size.
These days, though, you also see the weights mentioned by ruthk more and more often here. So it’s worth at least having heard the terms, so that you know what to look for when you come across one.
Not a bad thread at all - I’m sure it’ll help quite a few people! :)

I keep coming across terms in product descriptions that I’m not familiar with. So I just ask here in the forum, and someone usually knows what they mean.
That’s really handy.

Those are good questions 👍
I personally “work” a lot with these terms since I often follow English patterns.
What “helps” me much more in finding the right yarn is the “WPI”
(wraps per inch)—it makes it much easier to determine the yarn’s thickness.
Take a pencil or something similar, and use tape to mark off a one-inch section—about 2.5 cm. Now wrap the yarn around this pencil and count how many loops you’ve wound... Don’t wrap them too tightly together; wrap them roughly the same way you would on a knitting needle. Then there are charts where you can look up where your yarn falls on the scale. This is really handy if you have yarns without labels or, like my yarn, which has a very long yardage per 50g but is still very “thick” because it’s such a lightweight yarn. That’s how I found the right pattern for it 😊

I’ve created a separate thread for WPI = wraps per inch.
WPI = wraps per inch
Could you please post everything you have in terms of info and experience with it, all together in the new thread?
Someone specifically looking for information about WPI probably won’t check the thread about DK yarn.
That would be great.
