Reversible Beanie and Reversible Loop Set 1 - Rockets and Space

Hello everyone,

in the post about fleece fabric I asked you for support with the autumn/winter hats and neck warmers I wanted to make for my grandchild. After that, I bought a remnant bundle online. Fortunately, it included 2 matching colors.

My little grandson loves rockets and Paw Patrol, so these had to be the motifs for the outer fabric. On the inside, I lined the reversible beanie hat and the reversible loop with fleece. He can wear the hat with or without the cuff turned up. I like the sets, anyway. We'll see what he says about them at the weekend when he gets them as a gift.

I especially like the cut of the reversible loop because it extends farther down at the front, where the zipper is. The pattern is from CP. It was fun sewing these things. This is a lovely project for sewing beginners.

Warm regards from Ina

Wow, Ina, that looks amazing! Just like something from a store.
Your grandson is definitely going to be thrilled. I can just picture his eyes lighting up.

Finding fabric like that was a real stroke of luck.

Dear Monika,
Thank you so much for your kind words.
First, you have to figure out what the child likes. Then you have to check with the parents. If they give the go-ahead, you can search for fabrics with these designs on Etsy or elsewhere online. And then you also need to decide what quality you want. Ultimately, it’s always very exciting to see what the mail carrier actually delivers.
And the fact that the fleece fabrics matched in color was really a stroke of luck. That’s why I wanted the remnant pack. If I’d settled on a specific shade and it had looked different in real life, it wouldn’t have worked. I’m just too much of a perfectionist for that.

Best regards - Ina

Well, Ina, you’re already encouraging others to give this a try. It depends on whether my granddaughters’ parents agree—I could see myself making something like this too.

Dear Monika, I think the parents of your granddaughters would agree.

The sewn hats and neck warmers have the big advantage that you have so many more patterns, designs, and combinations to choose from. You only need a little bit of fabric, so it doesn’t get too expensive. You can also repurpose fabric from your own closet or your child’s, or buy something at a flea market.

Because they’re made with two layers of fabric (patterned fabric on the outside, something soft on the inside), they’re much warmer. With knitted hats and neck warmers, you often run into the problem of the wind whistling through the stitches or the wool scratching the neck. You don’t have that with the sewn ones. Plus, they’re easier to care for—just pop them in the washing machine. That’s important to parents these days.

For me, these are key advantages. As you can tell, I’m thrilled. My grandchildren now only get sewn hats and neck warmers—they think they’re prettier, and I like that too, because sewing—at least when it comes to hats and neck warmers—is something even beginners can master.

Warm regards, Ina

Great, you’ve convinced me, at least. I guess I’ll keep an eye out for them...
