Dear users, dear authors,
What is the advantage of Tunisian crochet?

I’m not sure if there’s really an advantage. It’s just a different way of crocheting, so it’s a matter of personal preference. Also, for larger pieces, you need a Tunisian crochet hook because the stitches aren’t closed immediately—they’re closed one by one at the end of each row. So you end up with many stitches on one hook, just like when knitting.
In general, I find that Tunisian crochet is quite similar to knitting. Maybe it’s especially suitable for someone who already knows how to knit and wants to learn crochet?
It might be worth considering combining knitting and Tunisian crochet in a pattern. I’ve always wanted to try that, but I’ve never had the time or peace of mind to come up with a design.

Personally, I prefer “regular” crochet, especially since Tunisian-crocheted pieces tend to curl up and then have to be edged with regular stitches.

Advantage: You don’t have to turn the work, since you crochet forward and then back again.
If you want to crochet something that won’t stretch out (as quickly), such as handles or straps, Tunisian crochet is a great choice.

You can also crochet in the round, but you’ll need two skeins of yarn.
One for the forward round, the other for the return round.

However, Tunisian crochet requires more yarn than regular crochet.

As I mentioned before, Tunisian crochet is better for bag handles or belts because it’s sturdier and doesn’t stretch as much.
However, this type of crochet takes longer than regular crochet. I prefer making small items, like coasters or a TaTü case. That’s still manageable. Otherwise, I don’t have the patience for larger projects.
That’s true—Tunisian pieces always need to be crocheted around the edges because they tend to curl up. But the stitch pattern is interesting. You could even crochet around the outside with contrasting yarn.

With my Tunisian-crocheted sweaters, I didn’t have to crochet around them at all—they don’t curl up at all.

It depends on what kind of stitch pattern you start with. You shouldn’t necessarily begin with the basic stitch.

Here’s a sweater—I put it on just for this.
Haha😂
