Knitted Fabric

Dear users, dear authors,
what is knitted fabric and what do you make with it?

I think I have something like that lying around as a fabric remnant from the shop. Industry has vests made from it.

Knit fabric comes in various weights and is actually knitted, not woven. Knit fabric can be used to make knit dresses and skirts, as well as sweaters, vests, and jackets. There’s fine-gauge knit for summer—a fabric machine-knitted from very fine threads for lightweight summer clothing.
Strictly speaking, jersey is also a type of knit fabric.

When you cut knit fabric, do all the stitches come undone, or is it secured somehow?

That depends on how tightly the fabric is knitted. With some knitted fabrics, it’s advisable to finish the edges of the cut pieces as quickly as possible and only then sew them together. Then there are other knitted fabrics where nothing happens at all; only the cut edge curls up.

Can knitted fabric only be made by machine? Can’t it be done by hand?

That would work too, but think about how much fabric you’d need just for a dress, and then the fabric would probably be too loose

These filet crochet hooks might be good for that, but of course, they’re crochet hooks, so that probably won’t work.
