to answer this question, we might need to know the context in which this measurement was given.

If you know who the author of the pattern is, I’d advise you to ask them.

This tells you whether you’ve printed the pattern at its original size. If the box on your printout is also 5 cm, then everything is correct.

If, after printing, you measure the box and it is 5 cm, everything is fine. Otherwise, you’ll need to scale the print to make it 5 cm. Otherwise, the pattern won’t fit properly later on.
