Dear users, dear authors,
While looking for some nice conversation topics for this week, I was reading a fashion magazine that had some great fashion tips and plenty of horoscopes.
Do you read horoscopes? Do you believe in horoscopes?
I thought I’d create a horoscope—specially tailored and exclusively for you—all without any astrological talent whatsoever. Here’s how it works:
If you’re reading this, I hope you have a pleasant week. :-)
That’s the extent of my astrological talents. :-)
That’s a great horoscope! :-)))))
In a slightly tipsy, festive mood, I once went to see a fortune-teller at a fair (and no, I don’t believe in that sort of thing at all). She predicted that I would have a serious accident in the foreseeable future, but that I would survive it.... A little over a year later, I broke my little toe, but I’m not sure if that counts.
When it comes to horoscopes in magazines, I always wonder how anyone is supposed to believe them. They say the same thing for women and men, for babies and the elderly, for the sick and the healthy.... that can’t possibly be right.

And if you read these horoscopes more closely—and over a longer period of time—you’ll notice that the horoscope that applied to Capricorn in January is published for Virgo in September of the same year. And so it goes with every zodiac sign throughout the year—they’re written once, and then it seems like they roll the dice to decide who gets which one this month. So much for the tabloid press’s astrology :-)
I actually have a book that lets you create horoscopes, but it’s a very time-consuming process—you need quite a bit of key data and have to do a lot of calculations. The most important thing for a horoscope is the time of birth, because that’s how you determine the position of the stars at that moment, etc. I’ve looked into it myself, and it’s an interesting topic, but it takes time and patience—you can’t just do it on the side.
Veronika, you were once a little tipsy when you went to one of those fortune-tellers and got lucky. My parents, when they were engaged, once went to see a lady like that. When she found out they were both Aquarians and wanted to get married, she told them they would have to give up their first child. My parents laughed, said, “Yeah, right,” and left. Unfortunately, that lady was absolutely right—the boy died in an accident when he was 20 months old. Ever since our parents told us this story when we were older, I’ve been more than cautious and avoid fortune-tellers like that. People often laugh at and dismiss things that can’t be explained by common sense and\/or science, but there’s more to life than just black and white. Best regards, Inge
This is a tragic story, absolutely terrible, but it definitely has nothing to do with Aquarians. I know a few Aquarian couples who’ve kept all their children.
It would be interesting to look into the whole birth time thing. My mother always said that there were nine of us at my birth—meaning nine children were born within an hour or two. That would mean we’d have pretty similar life paths to the other tens of thousands born in other places around that time. Unfortunately, I don’t know any of them.
And then there are the horoscopes with general advice like: “The lighter and more digestible your evening meal is, the more restful your sleep will be,” or “The stars are presenting you with exciting options this week,” or “Feel free to show your partner more often how happy you are to have them.”
Huh? That’s spot on! How can they possibly know that? 😝
But what’s true are certain traits that your horoscope attributes to you. Scorpios are really generous people; if you have one as a friend, they’re true friends, but woe betide you if you ever betray them—they’ll never forgive or forget. (My little sister :-) ) Capricorns are truly stubborn, and they’re so subtly stubborn that it makes you want to climb the walls. (My oldest daughter :-) ) Cancers are really just as they’re always described: they have a very hard exterior, but inside they’re as soft as butter—and they’re also very sensitive. (My middle daughter :-) ) Geminis are truly two souls in one body—yes, no, maybe—one way today and another tomorrow—and they manage to both cry and laugh at the same time. (My youngest daughter :-) ) Libras are very much harmony-seekers and avoid any argument whenever possible—that’s right :-) I’m a Libra. Libras also aren’t exactly known for making quick decisions—they literally weigh things very carefully before making a choice. :-) But once a decision is made, it’s finally set in stone—and it’s rock-solid.
Dear Inge, thank you! I didn’t dare to write here… until now. You’ve given me the courage.
Of course, I don’t believe in the usual “horoscopes” either. Viewed in such general terms, they simply can’t be right. But I don’t just believe in astrology—I’m convinced of it. Quite simply because it applies perfectly to everyone I know well. Not the zodiac sign in general, but the precise analysis of birth dates by a good astrologer.
When I was younger, a friend of mine who was an amateur astrologer once told me about a reading she’d done on my “innate talents and abilities,” and I almost laughed at her. I just couldn’t believe what she saw there. But looking back, I know she was right. Because everything turned out exactly that way. And it amazes me time and time again.
That’s why I’ve been studying astrology for several years now and looking at the birth charts of my friends and family. They’re all completely different, and they’re really accurate. It’s helped me understand these people better—and why they are the way they are—and it’s also helped me understand myself better.
Libra.... oh my, my ex was a Libra—not only did he never shy away from an argument, but he also loved to start them; clearly the black sheep of the Libras!
Yeah, there are definitely better ways to figure out someone’s traits or talents—I don’t know anything about that at all. It would actually make a lot of sense to research that; for example, it could help us support children in more targeted ways. I don’t even want to think about what abilities might be lying dormant just because someone never had the chance to try them out.
I couldn’t really say that, because my husband is a Libra too—we’re only 8 days apart in terms of birth dates. We’ve been a couple for over 40 years now. :-)
My ex was a Leo—never again a man like that. Leo men think women can’t think for themselves, and on top of that, they’re control freaks, which a Libra woman just can’t handle in the long run anyway ;-) :-)
They say that Cancers are very homebodies.
That’s true for me to a certain extent—and then I see pictures of certain countries and I get the travel bug.
If I could, I’d travel a lot.
Not package tours, but trips I put together myself.
We’re also supposed to be family-oriented.
That doesn’t really apply to me.
