Dear users, dear authors,
When it comes to sewing sewing patterns for animals, what should you keep in mind?

Make sure the proportions are right and that the animal itself is well constructed overall. For plush toys, I personally prefer hand sewing, because in my opinion it makes the little creatures sturdier and prettier.
Another important point is to think beforehand about whether the stuffed animal should have joints or be made without them. For teddy bears, for example, the pattern with joints and without joints is very different. You should also make sure the face is symmetrical and that one eye isn’t at the top left and the other at the bottom right, exaggeratedly speaking. Anyone who wants to design their own teddy bears and so on should, in my opinion, take the same path I did: I spent years using only ready-made patterns before I finally dared to design one myself. At the very least, you should work with a few ready-made teddy bear patterns first to get a feel for a bear. In time, other animals will follow that you can design yourself, because you become more confident with every animal you create yourself. For beginners, I recommend starting with animals that are not too big but not too small either, because there is more to it than just the pattern. You need embroidery thread, possibly felt for the snout and nose, felt or another fabric for paws and pads, and eyes in the right size. What plush you ultimately use is up to you; you can spend a lot of money on mohair fur, but cheaper options work too.
I love sewing plush little creatures in every shape and form.

Best regards, Inge

Which animal is a good choice for beginners?
Thanks for your advice.

I’d recommend starting with an animal that doesn’t have too many pieces, like this little kitten I once sewed for my grandson:

You should also avoid using fabrics with a very thick pile at first, since they can be quite difficult to work with.

Later on, you can venture into slightly more challenging projects.
Here are a few of my creations:

@Ruth,
nice work.

@Marion,
both. I’m not exactly sure what the difference is.

@Inge,
exactly.

Yes, exactly,

a) sewn animals: stuffed animals, toys, such as Ruth’s great collection in the post above

and

b) sewing patterns for animals: as Veronika wrote, everything for use with pets, e.g. dog coats, dog collars, treat bags, poop bag pouches, pet beds, etc.
as in the category https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/naehanleitungen-haustiere

For b), and in the case of clothing, taking the correct measurements, choosing the right size, and getting the fit right are of course very important. Also, the dog should feel comfortable in it and not have its movement restricted.
