Sewing Foil Jersey

how do you sew foil jersey, and what exactly is it?

I haven’t sewn with foil jersey myself yet. It’s often used for carnival costumes because it sparkles and shimmers beautifully.
The fabric is very slippery and not easy to work with. On top of that, it can’t be machine-washed, which doesn’t exactly make it more appealing to work with.

But if you’re looking for a beautifully shimmering fabric for a mermaid or princess costume, foil jersey is a great option. I would always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the sewing guide to ensure a beautiful result.

The key thing with foil fabrics—whether jersey or woven fabrics—is to use a Teflon presser foot, because otherwise the foil slows down the presser foot and causes the fabric to bunch up unattractively. But you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money on a Teflon presser foot; sandwich paper works just as well—it lets the presser foot glide smoothly and easily over the fabric. Place the sandwich paper between the fabric and the presser foot, and then you can sew easily—especially since the paper is translucent, so you can see exactly where you’re sewing. There are also adhesive Teflon feet designed to go under a regular presser foot, but these don’t always stick well to the foot. Otherwise, I can only echo what Sonja wrote.
