Picking up stitches

Dear users and authors,
do you have any tips for picking up stitches? Is this the same as casting on?

Would you like to add anything else?

Casting on is done at the beginning of a project. You can also cast on additional stitches if you want to widen a knitted piece. Like in the picture, for example. There, I simply cast on new stitches at the end of a row. You should be careful not to cast on the stitches too loosely. 



Picking up stitches: For example, for the neckband on a sweater. All the pieces have been knitted and sewn together. So we need to pick up stitches along the curve of the neckline and can then use the newly picked-up stitches to knit a neckband as a finishing touch. 

So that’s how it’s done. :-)
