Are turtles trending right now?

Dear users, dear authors,
Is there a new movie with turtles? Somehow I get the impression that the turtles in the shop are even more popular right now than usual.

I don’t know, but when I was buying flowers for my balcony recently, they immediately caught my eye in the home decor section:

Turtles are never out of style for me either, because I’ll be sewing some too, but first it’s the seahorses’ turn.

Kind regards, Inge

Is it kind of the same with turtles as it is with owls? They’re never out either.

That could be. Though I rarely understand why a particular thing is trending. With movies, it’s clear—Disney fuels kids’ wishes, so it’s worth producing them.
But who started the llama-alpaca craze? Or the sloth craze? And why isn’t there a May beetle craze? Or maybe that’s still to come....

I used to collect turtles—I had so many of all kinds. Even real ones, and I loved them. They lived in their own enclosure in our garden back then. When we moved from the north to the south, I gave them—with a heavy heart—to a friend who had several turtles. They were in good hands there. But I still love turtles. They’re wonderful animals, and to me, they radiate calm and wisdom.

Veronika, yours really looks like a real one.

Yeah, that’s why I had to buy them right away. We used to have tortoises, too—I really like them and would love to have some again, but we don’t have a yard anymore.

Hello everyone,
since I just came across this thread about turtles, I’d like to show you my little turtle (not made by me!). So many times I’ve wanted to crochet her a little brother or sister, but actually, she
is one of a kind:

Yes, she’s already a little “battered” and faded ... due to her spot on the edge of the sofa for the past four years, where the sun shines on her. You can only guess that her “shell” used to be pink/blue from the sides and her “little mouth”:

The little turtle was crocheted by my kindergarten teacher (back then I sat next to her almost every day, thrilled to watch her). The pattern was still handwritten by her mom. I chose the little turtle as my prize at the kindergarten summer festival back then.

The little creature is still stuffed with nylon stockings (do those even exist anymore? Haha)  and is celebrating her 50th birthday this September, believe it or not!  Half a century!  ;)
My grandson, my godchild, and even my niece have already wanted to have her - but it’ll still be a while before
I pass her on as an heirloom :) Who knows, maybe she’ll go down in history as a 100-year-old.
I wish you all a lovely weekend with
lots of creativity and fun.
Bine

Here’s a selection of my turtles that I’ve worked on before—except for the last one at the bottom, which is a chair cushion; I don’t have any more at home—they’ve all been given away as gifts, etc.

Best regards, Inge

One more beautiful than the next!
And 50 years is practically nothing for a turtle! It still has many more years ahead of it!

Inge, your little turtles are really fantastic. So many ideas for the shells.

I can only offer real ones. I’ve never sewn, knitted or crocheted one, but I take care of 5 of them every day and make sure they’re doing well.

I just crocheted a turtle as a bag charm too. I love turtles, especially sea turtles. When I was a kid, we had a tortoise in the garden for many years, and I had three water turtles.

Oh my, you have such beautiful turtles—each one more beautiful than the last. Mel’s little one is such an adorable baby. :)

Petra, I’d love to have your five as well. That’s exactly what my two looked like back then. It’s great to see that they’re doing so well with you and have grown to such a stately size. There’s quite a bit to keep in mind, especially before and after hibernation.

How are your turtles doing? Have you gotten any new ones or made any yourself?

I crocheted another little turtle, because one of my grandsons got the first one from me as a lucky charm

Best regards, Inge

How cute! My balcony turtle is hibernating along with the rest of my summer decorations; soon I’ll put up my Advent decorations, and the turtle can slumber until March.

You have some cute little turtles there.
I crocheted this one a while back. But I don’t remember which pattern it was or who it was by.
