Yeah, that’s pretty much what I had in mind. Do you use regular sewing thread, or is there a special kind that’s more durable? Although I imagine a hand-sewn bear like this would be more for adults and not for playing with.

I use Sterngarn for sewing teddy bears—it’s tear-resistant and sturdy. If I use regular sewing thread, I sew with two strands, or I use Din 40 thread, which is a hand-sewing thread.

Learned something new again. Thanks, Inge. I just looked up what “Sterngarn” is. I’ll have to keep that in mind, because I also sew the straps on my little jeans pockets by hand. I’m sure Sterngarn would be perfect for that, too.
