For women’s ready-to-wear clothing, there are several important measurements to consider, such as e.g.
Kh = body height
Bu = bust circumference
Tu = waist circumference
Hu = hip circumference
Älg = sleeve length
These are the measurements that should always be taken. Then there are the so-called auxiliary measurements, which help ensure that the garment really fits well
:Rh = back height, calculated from the back length divided by 2
Rlg = back length
Rb = back width + 2 cm seam allowance
Hu = hip height
Lg = dress length
Hs = neckline, meaning the front neck
Ad = armhole diameter Bb = bust width + 2 cm seam allowance
These are some of the measurements needed for women’s clothing.
For women’s pants, you need these measurements
Tu = waist circumference
HW = hip width
Kw = knee width
Fw = foot width
Stl = side length, measured from the waist to the ankle
Lbh = rise, calculated from the difference between Stl and Schrl
Schrl. = inseam, measured from the inner crotch to the ankle
Knh. = knee height
ALL MEASUREMENTS SHOULD BE TAKEN BY A SECOND PERSON. IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF, THEY WON’T BE RIGHT IN THE END, FRONT OR BACK, BECAUSE YOU MOVE, BEND, AND TURN SIDEWAYS, AND THEN CRUCIAL CM IN LENGTH, HEIGHT, AND WIDTH WILL BE MISSING!
Without taking proper measurements and creating a pattern, or measuring an existing pattern you want to use, you really shouldn’t even start sewing, because the frustration is huge if it doesn’t fit, doesn’t suit you, and you don’t feel comfortable in it
