I’ve often sewn Carnival costumes for my children and grandchildren, even though I’m not particularly skilled at sewing. But since these costumes are usually quite loose-fitting, it doesn’t matter too much if a seam isn’t perfectly straight… The kids always had a lot of fun with it because they got to choose the fabric themselves and contribute their own ideas.
Now they’re older and have pretty specific ideas about what the costume should look like. So sometimes I just have to pass on those projects.
Here are a few examples of children’s costumes I’ve made:

An astronaut and a clown for my kids (over 40 years ago). Back then, it wasn’t easy to find glittery fabric like that. I made the astronaut helmet out of a detergent container—my son kept it on all day! The laser gun is made from a toilet paper roll.

Firefighter (also for my son)—though in the picture, he’s already outgrown the costume a bit.

For my grandson (who was 2 years old at the time): a little leopard.

For my granddaughter: a little lamb.

My latest creation: a cape for Halloween.
