I once knew a woman who knitted all my amigurumi using my patterns. I have no idea how she did it, and she wouldn’t tell me either. But it seems to work.
I can definitely see that happening. But it would probably involve quite a bit of conversion work. In principle, you can probably knit any crocheted piece. But the pattern will always look “knitted” and not crocheted. At most, with lace patterns, it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference.
I’d have to figure that out… Depending on the pattern, you’ll need to make a gauge swatch. For single crochet stitches, for example, a stitch is about as wide as it is tall. For stockinette stitch, a stitch is about 3/4 as tall as it is wide.
You can then convert this using the rule of three, which you probably learned in math class.
That’s true, but you might be able to balance it out a bit by choosing the right material.
But take a look at the Doubleface Loops and shawls from a-mano—they’re available in both knitted and crocheted versions!
I wouldn’t put it that way. In terms of the stitch pattern, it only works so that crocheted pieces look knitted. But knitted pieces won’t look crocheted.
You can, however, convert sewing patterns, i.e. achieve the same shape .( But that is a lot of work; it’s better to look for a knitting or crochet pattern right away, depending on what kind of needlework you want to do. )
