Latch Hooking - Latch-Hook Cushions

Hi everyone,
does anyone actually still do this these days—latch-hooking pre-printed cushion fronts yourself? I remember it from back in the day; there used to be these cushion fronts with a pattern printed on them in color, and then you’d take these pre-cut wool threads in the corresponding colors and knot them in one by one until the pattern was complete.

And then, of course, you had to sew on the back of the cushion and put a small cushion into the resulting cushion cover. These cushions are just for decoration, though—I wouldn’t want to sleep on one, for example.

Is this “out of style,” or does anyone else still enjoy doing this?

I’ve seen this before, but I’ve never made one myself.
It’s definitely something for long, dark winter evenings.
Do you enjoy doing this?

My mother—who’s 90 years old—makes up to six pillows every year, with or without a pattern or template.

I remember my parents doing this, too—knotting pillows.

The previous owner of our house also did it. We still have a beautiful, timeless runner from her in the entryway.

Today, I don’t know anyone in my circle who still knots pillows.

I used to enjoy doing that, too, and there’s even a half-finished pillow lying around in an old box. Maybe I’ll finish it after all...

My mother knotted a rug for me as a wedding gift. That was in 1971. She’s been gone for a long time now, but I still have the rug in my living room—a beautiful, lasting memento...

Hi Ruth, that’s the beauty of handicrafts. They’re little (memorable) treasures. Love, Renate

I’ve never done it myself, but an aunt of mine did. I always loved the catalogs—from Junghans or similar brands—where you’d pick out the items you wanted. They always included wool samples, too—really exciting.

I’ve made cushions like that before, too.

I even still have some coarse canvas at home for that. But I have no idea yet what I’ll knot with it.
Time will surely tell.
