Increasing Stitches

Hi there,

I’m currently crocheting (or trying to crochet) the legs of an amigurumi. Somehow I just can’t make sense of the pattern. I’ve already started over 100 times, and it doesn’t work out any time. 

1st problem: According to the pattern, there should be a total of 14 stitches after the 1st round. That’s already not the case. I always only get 13. What am I doing wrong? (The pattern is in the comments)

2nd problem: Does 3x1 st inc mean that I have to crochet 4 sc into one stitch (including the previous sc), or that I have to crochet 3x1 sc one after another, increasing 1 stitch each time?

No matter how I do it, the leg ends up crooked and completely full of holes. I’m getting desperate! I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much!

regarding question 2, I can help you: you need to increase 1 stitch in each of 3 stitches.
Whether those 3 stitches are worked right after each other or spread out over a round should be clear from the pattern.

As for question 1, it’s hard to say.
How many stitches do you start with? And how many increases do you need to make to reach 14?

And if you’re really unsure: just write directly to the author(s) of the pattern!

As for question 1:
So you start with 7 ch and are supposed to crochet in rounds around them. To do this, in the 1st round, starting from the 2nd ch, you crochet 5 sc, and then 3 sc into the 7th ch. After that, you’re supposed to crochet 4 sc and 1 increase on the back of the ch-chain. Now there should be a total of 14 sts. But I don’t have that many… which actually doesn’t make sense, since: 5+3+4+1 = 13 

Or am I doing something wrong? 

1 increase equals 2 stitches! So 5 + 3 + 4 + 2 = 14.
