But I can’t get started because I don’t know how much yarn I need to buy, at least an approximate amount. This means I can’t use the pattern and paid for nothing.

According to the description, it was knitted with Catania yarn (LL 125 / 50 g); you’ll need 500 m of each of two colors, plus about 150 m for the border. For more precise information, it’s best to contact the author directly using the contact form.
