Would you like to share your thoughts on bobbles?

How’s your bobble-wrapping going right now?

When I work with a Bobbel, I don’t wind it. I take the yarn from the center and just get started

I’m still interested in the shawl winding. I understand the standard winding, of course.
But right now I’m knitting shawls, and it would be interesting to know how long the individual strands need to be to create a shawl winding.

I’ve been winding bobbles myself since mid-May and also offer them for sale, currently on two handmade platforms.
One thing I’d be interested to know is whether you’d also like to do this commercially now, or whether you mainly just do it for yourselves. I’d really like to expand it, but unfortunately I don’t have the reach. On face**** (not sure if I’m allowed to mention the name here :D ) I always see lots of successful groups where people offer their bobbles, but as I said, unfortunately I don’t have the reach there because I also have to invite people into the group, etc. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone in my circle of acquaintances who would be interested in something like that.. ):
I’d be very happy to get tips on that. (:

Also, I’d still like to know how shawl winding works. I keep thinking it over and sketching it out, trying to figure out how it’s supposed to work, but I can’t come up with a result. ^^"

Do you perhaps also have tips on where to get pure cotton cones in the same thickness, meaning the 32/2? So far I’ve been using the ones from tvu, but that’s a 50/50 blend of cotton and acrylic.

Lots of info and lots of questions; I hope that’s okay. :D

well, I wind Bobbel purely as a hobby and for my own knitting. I wouldn’t do it commercially, because just take a look at how many winders there are. Then it all kind of explains itself, because you really can’t make a living from it anymore.
A profit already starts with purchasing. What I save when buying is money I don’t first have to earn the hard way. That’s where the first obstacle comes in, because to be able to buy the cones cheaply, you would have to buy from the manufacturer. You can do that at TVU too, but then you always have to buy 12 cones per color in order to be able to buy there. What you sell in Bobbel is then weighed against what you would first have to invest to be able to offer a certain selection. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that you can’t really start with just three colors.
Think the whole thing over, because for years people have been trying to jump on this Bobbel bandwagon and haven’t managed it. To make it work, you need a lot of start-up capital at the beginning, and then do the math to see from which Bobbel onward you reach the profit zone.
Furthermore, most winders, even if they write so nicely “lovingly hand-wound,” now wind electronically. But that winder isn’t cheap either.
Just take some quiet time to think about my words, and please believe me, I don’t want to spoil winding for you. It is fun, after all. It’s just that you can only make a living from it under very specific conditions.

I’m also selling on two other platforms on the side—things might go better there.

I’m probably just missing a little nudge. Can anyone help me with that?

I can’t quite tell whether there’s a yarn tensioner there—if so, it might be set too tight… have you tried?

there’s a thread guide and a brake. I took another, better photo. Is this a sign that the brake is set too tight or too loose? Or do I maybe need to thread the yarn differently?
