Mupfel Ria Holz Triangle Shawl

Hi everyone, since it feels like it’s been 100 years since I last held knitting needles, I have a few questions about the “Mupfel” pattern. 
- 1. Pattern: This pattern is 16 rows long, then the change follows... But my work is only just under 4 cm long; it looks much longer in the picture? Did I do something wrong, or do I just need to repeat the pattern a few times? Although that seems very illogical to me right now...? 
- On page 4 of the pattern, the edge is described... so far, so good... but it mentions a little knot that’s supposed to appear after 4 rows... what does that look like? Where does it come from? 

Maybe someone can help me out here? That would be great!
