Finish Your UFOs: Use this thread to get rid of all your UFOs / unfinished craft projects

Dear users, dear authors,
With this thread, you can get rid of all your UFOs (unfinished objects) / WIPs (works in progress) / neglected craft projects, receive nice feedback, find motivation to keep going, and become or remain the UFO King or Queen.

Every month there is a UFO Week dedicated to working on UFOs. This UFO Week always takes place in the last week of the respective month.

One finished UFO per month is enough to become or remain the UFO King or Queen. Introduce your UFO or UFOs, with a photo and details if applicable. Then work on them and also present the finished craft project with photos, details, etc. You’re sure to find someone who has kind comments for you. :-)

The UFO Weeks for the 1st quarter of 2021 will take place:
January 24 - January 31, 2021
February 21 - February 28, 2021
March 24 - March 31, 2021

....I’m in....
Right now I’m knitting my WIP.... A shawl, extra fluffy and just huge. Needle size 3.25 with a 125 cm cable, and with 460 stitches, it just barely fits....

Here’s just a “small” part of the shawl....
It’s being knitted with slip stitches....
After that (at least that’s what I’ve planned), I’m going to empty my UFO boxes first.... 🙈
Love, Stephanie

I’m diligently continuing to knit my cardigan; the second front panel is almost done, then I’ll move on to the sleeves

My sweater is a work in progress, and I want to finish it this month. We’ll see if I can manage it. Here’s what it looks like right now.

This week, I picked up my huge motif blanket again—the one I’ve been working on since 2017. I’m now at 81 percent.

If everything goes as I hope, I’ll finish it by January 24—that’s my boyfriend’s birthday, and then he’ll finally get it.
It was actually meant to be for his 30th. But now it’ll be his 32nd birthday instead ;) That’s fine, too.
(I’m motivated. Keep your fingers crossed for me ;))

Unfortunately, I can’t show it to you since it’s a licensed product.

Stephanie, the shawl looks great! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.

@Monika, is that a sweater for an adult or for a child/doll? It looks great either way :)

Thanks, Tina! This time, the sweater is for me. :) Yesterday it got a few more centimeters longer.

Knitting a blanket for two years? Wow, you really do have perseverance. Hats off!

Stephanie, your shawl looks really wonderful and already very fluffy. You’re definitely going to be the Mega UFO Queen here, considering how much you still have in reserve.

Since my craft room is currently being renovated, I’ve already gone through and sorted through some of these boxes and baskets. I’ve been doing a lot of unraveling on projects I’d started—I couldn’t remember the patterns or the needle sizes anymore.

I have tons of UFOs. But I can say that I definitely haven’t added any new ones since at least the end of November. Except, of course, for the two projects I’m currently knitting on every day.

Once I’ve brought a little order to my chaos, I’ll take a few pictures. But I think that as long as I have such vast amounts of yarn at home, the UFOs certainly won’t decrease—they’ll just shift… from red yarn to yellow yarn…

“Diet” seems to be the magic word for my situation.

Oh, I finished a crocheted hat yesterday. It’s so cold here—you can’t get by without a hat anymore.

Pictures will follow in the next few days.

I’m still knitting my shawl—the last 24 rows are really tough; there are over 900 stitches, and then I have to bind off with an i-cord....
Right now, I still have 6 UFOs left that need to be finished, and then I can finally start something new. I haven’t planned anything new yet this time—I’ll let my wish list inspire me 😂🙈😂

There are still about 15 rows left and the loops for hanging it... I’m a bit discouraged right now because it was actually supposed to be finished by Christmas... But I’ll be crocheting again—I’m sure of it—since I already have another project I’ll be tackling next.

😍 Wow, that looks beautiful....
Will you show it to us when it’s finished?
I’m sure I’d have the perfect window for it 🙈
Best, Stephanie

Wow, such big UFOs? 900 M in a row? That really takes some stamina!

The curtain looks amazing. With the finish line so close, it’s worth sticking with it until the end.

My sweater will definitely be finished by UFO Week. Then I’ll show it off.

I’ll just tough it out....
What actually motivates me is that I won’t be able to see the shawl in its entirety until it’s finally off the needles.... With a 125 cm cable, you can only ever see a small part of it and not the “full effect” of the patterns. ...
I’m currently stuck on the first row of my border; I’m knitting a whole row of triangles with short rows, always over 15 stitches, then slip 3, then 15 stitches again, and repeat that across the entire row. I’m not even halfway done yet 🙈
It’ll get there... The other UFOs will definitely fly off the needles faster 👍

Stephanie, the result itself is already a great source of motivation. I’ve never knitted with a 125 cm cable before. OMG—that’s really painstaking work.

Thanks.....
I’ll try to finish knitting the row of triangles today, and then maybe even the row that goes all the way across....
I think I’ve taken on quite a bit....
How far along is your sweater?

My sweater just needs the remaining part of the second sleeve. I’ll probably be able to finish that in the next few days—a little bit every evening.

You can always show a little bit of your great shawl here from time to time. I’m excited to see it, and I wish you the best of luck in sticking with it.

The rows go on and on... I now have 910 stitches on my needle. The 125-cm cable is “too short”—the stitches don’t glide over it well because it “curls” endlessly 🙈
but I’m not giving up. I’ve already done 8 of the last 24 rows 😂👍
The border pattern is really easy to knit and it’s turning out really beautiful, so off to the couch to knit a “few” more rows...

Great.....
It looks fantastic, and I’m sure it’s really comfortable to wear....
My UFO grew by 2 rows today.... so I still have 14 rows to knit...

Hugs, Stephanie

Thanks, Stephanie. :)
14 rows—that’s a piece of cake for you, since you’ve already accomplished so much. You can already see the finish line. That UFO is practically in its final approach.

I think I can bind off now....
But I’m so “not sure” about that 🙈
Actually, if I were following the pattern exactly, I’d still have to knit one more garter stitch block. But I want to finish with the light yellow, and if I keep knitting now, I’d have to use that “colorful” yarn from the triangles, and that just doesn’t seem right as a finish.... I really don’t want any more of those blocks—10 more rows, with 910 stitches....
If only I could see the whole shawl right now, the decision would be a little easier...

What do you think????
I’m going to take a breather and go for a walk with my dog—about an hour, if the wind doesn’t blow us away....😂🐾

Hi Stephanie, your shawl looks really great.

Why don’t you just add a few more rows in yellow garter stitch to finish it off?

I imagine it should end with the garter stitch pattern so it drapes better.

Hi Marion....
To finish it off, there will be an i-cord bind-off in the skin color purple....
I just measured it.... as best I could, since it’s all scrunched up on the needle...
About 170 cm along the top, and from the center to the tip I’m at about 75 cm (hard to measure) .... all unblocked!.... This is going to be huge....

That’s right, Stephanie, I’d forgotten that.
Then you can just finish it off with an I-cord. I’m sure it doesn’t matter what color you end up with.
I’m looking forward to seeing your final result.

Wow, Stephanie, that shawl already looks amazing! I really like the color combination, too. I actually like it best just the way it is now. If anything, I’d just add a few more rows of the I-cord.

Okay..... I’m going to bind off now.
I’ve been lugging this shawl from one room to the next all day because I just couldn’t decide whether to keep knitting or just bind off...
I’m so excited to see how the shawl looks once it’s off the needles and I can finally see it “in its entirety”....

......I’ve got it off the needles.....
It took me 2.5 hours to bind off 🙈 Now I just need to wash and block it (and then see if I like it better than I do now)
It’s like it always is when I knit something—it’s a ton of fun, and then when it’s finished....
Of all the shawls I’ve ever knitted—and there have been a lot (20)—I wear two! All the others are scattered around in the closet or in boxes.... Weird, right?

Hi Stephanie,

You’ve already finished your shawl—that went fast!  Now we can finally really see that beautiful pattern.
The shawl turned out really lovely.

I know what it’s like when you don’t like the piece right away at the end; I’ve been there too. I’ve knitted quite a few sweaters and vests that are just sitting in my closet. Sometimes I’ve taken them apart and turned them into something completely different. The last one was earlier this year—it started out as a scarf, but then became a pair of gloves.

Sometimes you don’t realize until later whether a yarn “works” or not.... Sometimes I start something because I like the pattern and think the yarn is a good fit. Then I end up not liking it after all, so I switch the yarn—and somehow I don’t like that either, even though the yarn feels so nice.... and then I look for another pattern.... 🙈😂
So in the end I end up knitting neither the original pattern nor with the yarn that was actually right for it....

....I just grabbed the next project bag...
I have three or four of them, and there’s a UFO tucked away in each one 😂🙈😂
And now it’s time for the coat, the crown, and the slippers.

Once she’s finished, she’ll definitely have more “shape.”
So far, I’ve only knitted the rough version. And I’m not happy with the eyes yet either—the mouth is still completely missing. I think once she has the crown on her head, I’ll work on the face too; the eyes are just pinned in place for now—in the original, they’re embroidered....

Wow, Stephanie, that’s really impressive—you finished it so quickly. The shawl looks amazing! It’s a real eye-catcher with that pretty pattern.

It’s a shame about all the shawls you don’t wear. I generally only knit things that I can either use myself or give away.

For me, knitting is therapy... and I’m simply fascinated by what you can create from a single “thread.” ... I’ve knitted and crocheted quite a few bags, and I’m actually using them. One as a handbag and one for shopping. All made of cotton and washable 👍
I switch them out every now and then. And one or two sweaters and a skirt are making their way out of the closet, too. But shawls—not so much...

I feel exactly the same way—knitting is therapy for everything for me, too, and simply my favorite thing to do.

I know all about those shawls; that’s exactly why I’ve only knitted four so far and given one of them away.

In between, I had to crochet something, just on the side while watching TV.

Today I washed and blocked my shawl...
90x180.... it’s huge. Perfect for snuggling up in 😍
It still looks very “dark,” and it’s not dry yet either....
It might become my new favorite piece....

Yeah, I did end up knitting on it a bit longer than expected. Especially the last few rows with over 900 stitches were time-consuming....
But there’s only one strand per row, which made the whole thing a bit more relaxed, and slip stitches....
It took me over three hours to bind off with the i-cord...
Hopefully it’ll be dry tomorrow, and it’ll keep me nice and warm while I’m out walking the dog.

Stephanie, your shawl looks absolutely amazing! I could totally see it becoming my favorite piece, too. No one appreciates it as much as you do, because you put so many hours into it. The little dragons (?) turned out cute, too.

Yeah, those two “sea monsters”.... My nephew has already claimed them, so to speak.... He saw them and—boom—“love at first sight.” He’s already gotten a few animals; he just loves them—dragons and little “monsters”... well, at three years old, he’s allowed to 😀

I think this isn’t limited to any particular age—as long as we let the child within us continue to thrive. It’s definitely good for us and makes the world a little more creative, fun, and cheerful.

UFOs? Oh yeah, those are the things that constantly make you feel a little guilty and love to curl up comfortably in baskets and bags… Unfortunately, I have quite a few of them, and right now there’s hardly any sign of them decreasing, since too many new and urgent projects are lined up—Easter is coming up soon, and there are a few birthdays coming up, too! But you guys are motivating me to dig out one or two of them and finish them—we’ll see!

I haven’t started any new ones. That’s already progress for me. All the projects I started in the last few weeks are either finished or unraveled.

The old ones are still tucked away in various drawers, boxes, and cabinets.
