Little tricks (motivation) and tips for crafting

For example, I really don’t like knitting stockinette stitch, and most of the time it’s in the round too… like a raglan sweater.
A friend of mine solved this “problem” for herself like this: For every row she wants to knit in one piece, she sets aside a gummy bear… knit a row, eat one…
What tricks do you guys have?

But with that trick, the sweater won’t fit when it’s done ;-) :-)
When I’m knitting stockinette stitch, I watch TV or listen to the radio—that way, it goes pretty fast

I do something else in between once I’ve knitted a few stitches.

@akela, it’s only one gummy bear per row....
But my last sweater actually didn’t fit me anymore afterwards...
I started it in December and when it was finished in February, it was much too big 😎 I lost a lot of weight during that time....
The upside is that I now have far fewer stitches in a row 😂

For me, it’s exactly the other way around. I reward myself with knitting or crocheting when I’ve finished a household chore.
Wash the dishes—knit two rows; tidy up the laundry basket—knit two rows. That way, our place eventually gets a little tidier, and I’ve still been able to indulge my passion.

@WollwunderPetra, I like your way of rewarding yourself! It’s also much healthier than the gummy bear version! It would probably work for endless rows of post double crochet too… I do see one danger, though: you might get stuck knitting/crocheting.

@Wollbaerli
yes, with my method too, you have to be very careful not to get caught on the needle. But it makes the annoying housework much easier for me (laugh)

I feel exactly the same way as Petra and Christina. When I’m tired of housework, I grab my knitting as a reward and relax while I knit. Yeah, and sometimes I just keep knitting when nothing better comes up. ;-)

Watching TV... I can watch TV—or rather, listen to it—even while working patterns 😋
I knit, crochet, or spin a lot (mostly) in the evening while the TV is on.
Audiobooks tend to get more playtime throughout the day while I’m doing crafts.
