A toy for indoors and outdoors: Meet Violetta, a unicorn you can ride!

Violetta is soft and cuddly all over: Her head was specially crocheted with teddy wool, and the riding stick is a soft pool noodle. That way, no one can get hurt, and the items in the living room stay intact even when things get a little wild. And if your child doesn’t want to part with Violetta at night, they can even take her to bed.

Crocheting with teddy wool isn’t that hard if you crochet with a cotton yarn at the same time. That way, you can still feel the stitches and know where to insert the hook. You’ll find more helpful tips for crocheting with this yarn in the pattern.

Materials used:
  • 100 g fluffy yarn in white (Phil douce by Phildar, 86 m / 50 g)
  • 50 g cotton yarn (filet yarn), size 10, in white, as an accompanying yarn
  • 150 g of cotton yarn in purple (approx. 125 m per 50 g, e.g., Catania by Schachenmayr)
  • 50 g of light gray cotton yarn (approx. 125 m per 50 g, e.g., Catania by Schachenmayr)
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Crochet hook 3.0 mm
  • 1 pair of safety eyes in purple, diameter approx. 3 cm
  • 1 pair of false eyelashes
  • Craft batting, approx. 300 g
  • 1 purple pool noodle
  • Glue suitable for Styrofoam

Eddy 🦄 is a wonderful playmate for little unicorn lovers!
He holds his pacifier in his mouth all by himself and drinks his bottle on his own (thanks to hidden built-in magnets). And when he has a bit of fairy dust in his diaper, it can easily be taken off and shaken out 😁

Eddy is easy to make; his ears, arms, and legs are crocheted in as you go. The step-by-step pattern has lots of pictures and, just as the name says, explains everything in detail step by step. The types of stitches used are also explained thoroughly in the crochet pattern.

For Eddy and his accessories, we use the following:
  • gründl Lisa Premium uni" - yarn 50g/133m (approx. 60g purple, 33g dark purple, 20g white, 4g light yellow, 1.60m cream, 4g light blue, 1.20m blue); crochet hook - size 3.5
  • gründl Cotton Quick uni" - yarn 50g/125m (yarn scrap in black for the pupils); crochet hook - size 2.5
  • 2 magnets (approx. 15mm diameter)
  • stuffing (approx. 50g)
  • fabric scrap (approx. 11cm x 6cm)
  • button (approx. 15mm diameter)
  • pacifier, magnetic (e.g. as an accessory for reborn dolls)
  • hot glue gun

If your child ever wants to quickly turn into a unicorn while playing, you should definitely remember this design. The mask is already pre-drawn and only needs to be printed out and fitted with elastic cord.

You can get this unicorn printable template in three sizes; the smallest fits a child from about age 2. Even if you have very little crafting experience, my short instructions will help you finish this mask.
