Darning Needle

Dear users, dear authors,
what do you do with a darning needle?

Darning! That is, mending or repairing mostly knitted items like socks or stockings. Darning needles have a rounded tip, which allows them to glide more easily through the stitches of knitted fabric. They’re less likely to split the yarn than a sharp-tipped needle. That’s why they’re also used to sew together the pieces of amigurumi.

@ruthk, there are darning needles with round and pointed tips; I have both, and depending on the task, I use the one that’s best for it. I prefer to use the one with the pointed tip for darning socks rather than the one with the round tip—the round-tipped one is better suited for woolen items, as it prevents the wool yarn from splitting.

Don’t darning needles always have a rounded tip, while embroidery needles have a pointed one?
I think that’s what I learned in needlework class.

In my opinion, there are darning needles with and without points,
just as there are embroidery needles with and without points.
The one I use to sew amigurumi together, I call a yarn needle.
