Metal frame on the sewing machine

Hi everyone,

I treated myself to a used sewing machine yesterday, thinking, “It can’t be that hard.” I know where everything goes and how to thread it, but I can’t get the thread through the eye at all without a threader because there’s this weird “metal frame” in front of it. The manual doesn’t say anything about it—can I just remove it?

I hope you can help me.

Best regards

Hello,
that is probably a finger guard for a high-speed sewing machine.
Best regards
Serap

Yeah, that makes sense :D

So can I basically take it off until I really know how to use the sewing machine?

Hi, unless you want to sew at high speed, you don’t need a frame like that ;-)
I don’t know anyone who’s ever needed a finger guard like that. Normally, something like that isn’t even attached when you buy a machine.
If you can’t remove the frame, you’ll have to buy a new presser foot.
The presser foot costs about 13–15€.
Best regards
Serap

No, I really don’t want that. Just little “household chores” that I think every woman should be able to do…

I’ll try loosening the screw—it looks like I can take it off there. Maybe then I’ll be able to thread the needle more easily.

Thank you for your help, Serap :)
