Shoulder shaping

I’m new here and hope someone can help me.
  For a sweater with slanted shoulders. Start the slant at a height of 52 cm—that’s clear. Now here’s what comes next:
On the 4th row, bind off 4x1 in total, and on every 2nd row, bind off 4x1 in total. On each subsequent row, bind off 5x1 sts in total. = 92 sts. I cast on 118 sts for size 40/42
Now, on both sides, bind off 1x8 sts as follows: 3 sts as per the pattern, knit 2 sts together as per the pattern, 3 sts as per the pattern. ***(What do the asterisks mean?) Continue in the following row. On both sides, bind off 2x8 sts as per the pattern, also knitting the middle 2 sts together. Place the remaining 44 sts on a stitch holder.
