Pattern repeats

Hi,

I have a knitting pattern for a jacket with a mix of lace patterns, and I don’t understand part of the pattern.
I’m supposed to start the pattern after the cuff. Text:
On the 1st row, increase by 2 stitches and distribute the lace patterns as follows: 30 stitches according to knitting chart 1, 17 stitches according to knitting chart 2, 2 x 15 stitches according to knitting chart 3 ...
My problem is knitting chart 2. The repeat for knitting chart 1 covers 30 stitches, so that’s fine, but the repeat for knitting chart 2 only has 5 stitches. However, I’m supposed to knit 17 stitches. They can’t be edge stitches—the pattern is in the middle of the piece, right?

Can anyone help me with this?

Could it be that Knitting Chart 3 is knitted 3 times, with one stitch at the beginning and end each time—that is, 1 stitch following Knitting Chart 1, 3 times Knitting Chart 2 = 15 stitches, plus 1 stitch before Knitting Chart 3?
That adds up to 17 stitches for me.

It’s best to ask the author how she intended it to be done.
