Hi,

my grandson wants a very special stuffed animal. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to
make the lower half of it. Maybe you have an idea.

Hi, depending on how big you want it to be, you can buy a large acrylic hemisphere—they’re available at any good craft store. Or you could use a Tupperware bowl; that would actually be sturdier.

The whole thing does remind me of that Fisher-Price potty… if you were to crochet around it, the resemblance would be uncanny.

Otherwise, I could also imagine using a basket with the handle removed....

I hope this helps.

@papi31
Do you perhaps have a photo of what it looks like when the “lid” is folded down?
Is it a dog? I can’t quite picture it right now.

Sure, I have a photo,

It's a monster from some game.

It’s supposed to be a cuddly toy. So I’d use eyelash yarn. I can’t knit with this yarn either, but crocheting works very well—you can’t see the mistakes.

Using a Styrofoam ball wouldn’t make it very cuddly.  Maybe you could just use a rubber ball, cut it open, and crochet around it. You can line the inside of the ball with felt using hot glue. I’d also glue the crocheted piece onto the rubber ball with hot glue and tuck the felt under the crocheted piece along the edge (generously!!!!!).

I’d cut all the way through the ball and crochet the two halves separately. To make the mouth open, I’d sew the two halves together about halfway (a little less), because obviously the monster needs to be able to swallow something.

I don’t know if this helps, but I definitely wish you the best of luck.

Hihi... oh right, it’s supposed to be for cuddling... lol, from the photo, I would’ve thought it was a storage box :)
