Knitting Baby Shoes

Hi,

what’s softer, warmer, and more practical for a baby?
Knitted baby shoes or crocheted ones?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Best regards, flyowl

Hello,

the warmest baby shoes: knitted and felted in the washing machine.

Whether knitted or crocheted, the pattern and color don’t matter. What matters is the wool used. I knit with pure merino wool. It is soft, doesn’t scratch, cools when it’s too warm, warms when it’s too cold, doesn’t smell, keeps its shape, is easy to wash, absorbs little moisture, but releases it quickly.

Hi flyowl,

I also mostly use Merino wool. It doesn’t matter whether they’re crocheted or knitted—both keep feet nice and warm. There is, however, a slight difference when it comes to size. Knitted booties are more stretchy, while crocheted ones are quite firm. That’s why knitted booties fit for longer as the baby grows than crocheted ones. Crocheted booties are sturdier, so they don’t stretch as much, but the advantage is that you can create very nice shapes, such as low-cut booties or booties.
So feel free to crochet or knit the booties—whichever you prefer.

Best regards
Christiane

Hi,

I’d be interested in that, too. Are baby shoes mostly knitted or crocheted?

Best regards, Melanie
