Hi Josefa,

since we’re going on vacation on Saturday, here’s what we have planned for December 24:

Sleep in and have
a leisurely breakfast, then head to the pool
until around 2 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., we’ll attend the children’s Christmas Mass, followed by a Christmas celebration at the cemetery in the town where we live
. After that, our kids will cook for us—they wouldn’t miss
the chance to do that. After a delicious meal, we’ll open presents and enjoy a cozy evening
. Maybe we’ll even take a nice walk in the snow.

Best regards, Heike

As cozy as possible.
It’s just the two of us, which is how we like it best.

We’ve had more than enough stress with relatives over the past few years.
We’ve had our fill of that.

Nice and cozy, just the two of us.
Have breakfast, get comfortable, unwrap presents, and spend the rest of the day enjoying them. In the days after that, we’ll be renovating the kitchen :D

With the whole family!!!

Everyone comes on the 24th with the whole family, and we have
a cozy meal together.
Then the kids get their presents, and afterward the living room looks
like a wastepaper dump :-)

Best regards,

Birgit

There are just two of us, which is also just fine with us. So everything is completely normal, nothing unusual.
Everyone who would like to visit us lives far away, about 200 km or more. Thank God, the past years have been enough.

On Christmas Eve, we start by decorating the tree. In the evening, our younger daughter comes over with her boyfriend. After dinner, we go to church like we do every year, then continue celebrating at home and try the first batch of “Guetzli.” On Christmas Day, we attend a church service, followed by lunch with the four of us; in the evening, we’re on our own again. On St. Stephen’s Day, there’s lots going on at our older daughter’s family’s house—so at least it’s not our living room that looks like a garbage dump!

We’ll decorate the tree tomorrow evening to round off my daughter’s birthday. On Christmas Eve, we’ll sleep in, tidy up the birthday leftovers, have brunch, go to the nativity play in the afternoon, open presents, and enjoy a cozy get-together with meat fondue at my in-laws’ place with 14 people (all their children with their families).
On the first day of Christmas, we’ll sleep in again, have something simple to eat, and play with the kids. On the second day, we’ll have brunch, then go to the movies, and afterward to a Mexican restaurant. We don’t have many family gatherings. Some people just aren’t up for it, or they’re constantly on the go themselves.

Christmas is pretty much canceled this year. No tree—just a big floral arrangement. The festive meal is being moved up to noon on Christmas Eve. Then we’ll drive our daughter home, because nothing’s running here on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, everyone will be working. My husband has a 12-hour day shift, and I’m on the night shift. Our daughter has to work, and our son in Switzerland can’t come—he has to work, too. Only our youngest (18) can do what he likes best: chill out without anyone bothering him.
That, too, can be Christmas.

My husband and I are staying at home.
Whether we’ll have visitors, we’ll just wait and see. Our children (patchwork family) and grandchildren are always welcome.

Happy holidays

Gabi

We (my husband and I) spend Christmas in a totally relaxed way.
On Christmas Eve at my in-laws’, we have potato salad and sausages for dinner, and just like every year, Freddy auf Hoher See plays in the background; there are seven real candles burning on the Christmas tree, and there are no presents.
Later in the evening, we break out the accordion and sing Christmas carols :)

In recent years, we’ve always gone on vacation on Christmas Day, and this year we’re sticking to that tradition again. On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we enjoy delicious meals and watch classic movies with the family, such as 7 Against Chicago or Die Feuerzangenbowle.

So it’s super relaxed and cozy.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas,
Best regards, Petra
