Yarn winder

Dear craft lovers, I crochet a lot with these gradient yarn cakes, usually three-stranded. Now I’ve been wondering—for myself and my mom, who knits socks and scarves with them—whether I could make the cakes myself. But how? Can I use a simple yarn winder, like one from Knit Pro, to wind cakes up to 1,000 m long???Will they turn out as firm and cylindrical as the ones I buy? There aren’t any videos or tutorials showing this—only skein yarn being wound. The cakes aren’t plied, so I don’t need a twister, right????
