...is called “knitaholism” and “crochet addiction”...
and it really shows because even summer, sunshine, the beach, and all that can’t keep me from knitting and crocheting. Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have so many other things to do and could spend more time on crafts?!
Yes, these “illnesses” are incurable—thankfully ;)
Well—the word “wollen” (to want) comes from “Wolle” (wool), as everyone should know.
We don’t have sun, sand, or a beach here.
But you can indulge in this productive addiction while watching TV, on the train, on the bus, in waiting rooms, on the balcony and patio, and in the garden.
We’re definitely hooked on our needles and regularly visit our “dealers”... I needed another fix of yarn today—my “dealer” always greets me so enthusiastically ;-)
Well, I’m badly afflicted too. But that’s only because there’s always such beautiful yarn. And those lovely fabrics are to blame as well. The materials lie there on the table and call out, “Hey, Jana, imagine what wonderful thing I’m going to become — you already know!” and off I run for the needles. And then I also saw a new knitting shop in Grenzach. Unfortunately, it was closed (at lunchtime). But there was still yarn on the shelves that I could see, and it was calling, “Come back soon, we’re looking forward to seeing you!”
Well, we really are as badly addicted as that. .........
But it also means that without our addiction, we’d be even worse off — giggle — Jana
Yesss, count me in too. I almost never leave the house without my yarn supplies. If I actually don’t have them with me, my friends give me suspicious looks :-)
Oh, what a comfort to know there are so many of us :-)))
I once put up a sign at the store that said:
“Warning! Knitting is addictive. Help at www.suchthilfe.de.”
But I took it down again—because who really wants help, right? Besides, this addiction is good for business.
Your doctor doesn’t know about this condition?... Mine does, and that’s why I’m not getting a health retreat!
He says I’m not allowed to lift heavy things, and I’m not allowed to lug along enough supplies for three weeks ;-)
I’m one of those people who still knits even in the worst heat. And I simply can’t walk past yarn shops.
But I do think to myself that if I did this from morning to night without any other activities, it might not be as enjoyable anymore. For me, the biggest appeal is the relaxing effect, but if I’m relaxing all day long, what will I be relaxing from in the evening? So, in short, I just can’t knit nonstop.
And the funniest thing was this: a customer was sitting in my shop in the middle of summer at 40 °C in the shade (it was almost just as hot inside the shop), and we were crocheting little Christmas angels :-)
And of course, nonstop wouldn’t be any good either. Every now and then, I have to satisfy my urge to move around. Then I put on my hiking boots and off I go.
Oh yeah... I’m one of those people too, though only for the past few months (after a break of over 20 years). How on earth did I ever live without yarn and needles before? Unthinkable! :-)
By now, I’ve had to get a new closet—luckily, not a whole new room… grin.
I have so many ideas; I’d need at least 10 arms to do them all. And when I see yarn, my fingers just start itching. It’s really crazy! ;-)
Bottom line: It’s the best addiction in the world, and I never want to give it up!
My addiction has also been pretty strong for the past 2 years. My husband always shakes his head in the evenings when I have to make the light brighter and brighter so I can crochet better. But he'll just have to get through it.
The only bad days are when the battles happen here
Housework vs. needlework
Housework rarely wins :-)
I know all about stashing away yarn, too. My husband already calls me a “yarn hoarder.” No matter which cupboard you open, there’s yarn—or at least accessories—stashed away everywhere.
Only the kitchen has been spared (so far).
He often says that at least the tiniest bits of leftover yarn can be thrown away. Before he could take matters into his own hands, I quickly made a colorful door wreath. I don’t think he’d ever actually throw anything of mine away, but he did remind me of the box with the leftover yarn.....
@Arni:
I feel exactly the same way. ;-) Just this morning I dropped everything and crocheted on my new design. The housework had to wait two hours until I was finally ready.
Every day I look forward to my free hours so I can finally start turning my ideas into reality.
And by now I’ve even noticed that my first thought in the morning ... is about my new knitting and crochet projects.
@Pe-Ka
My husband just smiles about it and says the apartment is getting cozier and cozier...
By now he knows that I can still use even the tiniest bits of leftover yarn, so he leaves them where they are. :-)
*laughs* So I’m not the only one with these “symptoms.” This addiction is incurable, and that’s a good thing.
My husband laughs too, because my yarn stash somehow keeps getting bigger instead of smaller.
It’s true—every free minute is used to let creativity run wild or to try out those amazing, irresistible patterns. Household chores really have to wait, and you have to be careful that it doesn’t get out of hand, because sometimes housework has to come before crafts—with a heavy heart.
The great thing is, you can share your creations with everyone in the gallery, find inspiration all over again, and it all starts anew *chuckle*
I even dream about yarn and new crochet ideas...
And during my nightly breastfeeding sessions right now, new ideas keep popping into my head, and I’d love nothing more than to get up and start crocheting...
@ZwergnaseBaer
I think your little birds are so cute... eventually I won’t be able to resist. :-)
Especially since I loved my budgie so much. You captured him perfectly... the blue one.
I just checked out your Facebook page. Wow! It’s really worth a visit!
You’ve got the best model right at home for your crochet addiction. Making things for little ones is great fun and, above all, quick to finish.
