I’m currently crocheting a baby blanket. It’s not a pattern. I took a pattern from a book and just started crocheting. It’s looking really good so far. It’s a wave pattern made of double crochets. Now I’m almost done and want to add a border using single crochets or crab stitches (I’m not sure yet).
Here’s my question: Do I need to work 1 or 2 stitches into each double crochet along the edge to make sure it’s even and doesn’t warp?
Hello ladies,
is “edging” what you’d also call a border, or not really?
I came across the term on an English-language website, but I wasn’t quite sure what they meant by it.
In principle, yes. This can be a very simple border that simply makes the finished edges look neater, but it can also be embellished with creative patterns. A crocheted neckline, for example, would also be considered an edging.
OK, thanks for now.
If you say “in principle, yes,” that means it’s not exactly the same.
I don’t know much about crafts—when it comes to crocheting, knitting, sewing, and embroidery, I only know the very most basic techniques, and I’m not particularly fluent even in those.
Well, edging is simply a border—it doesn’t necessarily have to go all the way around. For example, it could also be a finishing edge for a triangular shawl, where you simply edge the long straight side in some way. Or, for a scarf, you could edge the long sides. It doesn’t have to be a complete round.
@Josefa:
I can’t say anything about that term, but I’d like to encourage you to develop your crafting skills. After all, you have to lead by example for the users here ;)
Oh my goodness.
I thought it would be enough just to hang out here and read along so that some of that crafting knowledge would rub off on me. Maybe I’ll get some pretty yarn and give it another try.
For me, crocheting is totally relaxing. When I see what I’m creating, it makes me feel happy. The blanket is now finished (photo is in the gallery), and now I’m using the remaining yarn to make a jacket. I’m always excited to see how my projects turn out in the end
