Hi everyone,
I don’t understand the pattern.
Since I haven’t mastered all the techniques yet, I need your help.
I’m trying my hand at the Helen Sweater from Hobbii.de
Row 1: 1 sc, 2 sc together, *work until 3 stitches before the next marker, 2 sc together, 2 sc, 2 sc together*, repeat from * to * until 3 stitches remain, 2 sc together, 1 sc = 8 stitches decreased.
Thanks in advance for your help
Best regards.

Good morning, Sweety39,

what exactly don’t you understand about your first row?

You’ve crocheted the required number of chain stitches. You’ve placed your marker and start with 1 sc, then crochet 2 sc together. From here, the pattern repeats: * * = crochet 2 sc together – 2 sc – 2 sc together * until you have 3 stitches left before the first marker. Then crochet 2 sc together, followed by 1 sc. The next marker should come next. And depending on how many markers you’ve placed, the whole process is repeated.

That’s how I’d understand it. At the end of your row, you’ll have 8 fewer stitches per marker.

I don’t understand the different steps.
Do I now work 1 sc, 2 sc together until 3 stitches before the first marker, and then 2 sc together, 2 sc, 2 sc together until the first marker, or what??
I’m kind of overwhelmed by this.

You start with 1 sc, then work 2 sc together. Next comes the section between the two * *

—repeat from * to * = this means you have to repeat the stitches between the * as many times as necessary until you’re 3 stitches before the next marker. That could be 3 times, 5 times, or however many times it takes.

The repeat between the * in your pattern is = work 2 sc together – work 2 sc – work 2 sc together. You repeat this until you have 3 stitches left before the first marker. Then crochet 2 sc together, followed by 1 sc. The next marker should come next. I can’t say whether you should only crochet the repeats or also the stitches before the * repeat, since I don’t know the pattern (and you’re not allowed to post a copy here either).

It’s best, though, to contact the author of the pattern (hobbie.de); he’ll be able to help you best, since he knows the entire pattern, which isn’t the case here. Without that full context, it’s harder to help.

That’s great. Then you can also ask Hobbii your question on the pattern’s page, for example.

Or you can contact them here via the “Contact” page.
