Lantern with a crocheted ring

Hi everyone,
I’m currently crocheting a lantern where the ring is crocheted right into the piece.
When I’m crocheting, the ring always seems to get in the way—it works somehow, but it’s very difficult. Is there a trick to make it easier?

No, I don’t have a great tip either, but I only find it so annoying at the beginning—it gets easier once you’ve worked a few more rounds.

You can also crochet the lantern without the ring first (making sure the size fits exactly!!) and then either crochet the ring onto it or “sew” it around with slip stitches.
It’s just one more step, and you have to measure beforehand and—in the “worst case”—do a gauge.
