Instructions: How to Sew a Fitted Cover

I made an illustrated pattern showing how to sew a fitted cover. In Image 1, you have the fabric lying in front of you, wrong side up. Mark the fabric at each corner as deep as you need it, but when cutting the fabric, remember to add enough fabric at the bottom for the fold-over hem plus the seam allowance for the drawstring channel.
Image 2: Then fold the fabric together at the corners so that the marked point is exactly centered in the fold, and cut out the corners as needed, as shown in Image 3.
Image 4: Then place the cut edges together as shown in the picture and sew the edges together the width of the presser foot, as shown in Image 5.
This gives you the basic shape of the fitted cover, as shown in Images 6 and 7. Then all you have to do is sew the hem into a channel, Image 8  and thread elastic through it, Images 9 and 10, and your fitted cover is finished.

Well, this is much better than my first cover.
At some point, though, I cut it crooked—the back is bulging in one spot.
But I’m slowly getting the hang of it.
I still need a third one, after all. 

Anja, there’s a reason tailoring requires 3–3½ years of training—so don’t take it too hard. It’s like with most things: practice makes perfect, and for a first try, it’s not bad at all—you’ll get the hang of it :-))
