Shoulder pad for a handbag

Since I always—or at least very often—have to lug around half a pharmacy whenever I go out, my handbag gets pretty heavy and starts to dig into my shoulder. So today I sewed myself a little pad like this and attached it to my bag’s strap. This takes some of the pressure off and makes it more bearable.
You don’t need much to make something like this—and definitely no pattern—because all you need is a measuring tape, some thin batting, a sewing machine, and a little skill. :-)

What a great idea—and so practical!

I’d like to sew something for the straps on my backpack, too. They come with padded straps already, but I need another piece so I can connect them at the front. That way, the weight will be distributed more evenly across my upper body. Large backpacks or hiking backpacks come with this feature built-in. I need to retrofit my small all-purpose backpack with a homemade version. It’s definitely on my to-do list.

The idea with the shoulder pads is awesome. I could get started right away and use at least one handbag.

A backpack isn’t really the ideal way for me to carry things, since I get around with either walking aids or a walker. If I need something from my bag, the backpack is always on my back and I have a hard time reaching my things; with a handbag, I can always grab what I need without having to contort myself. :-)
