Avoiding and Correcting Sewing Mistakes

What are some common sewing mistakes, and how can they be avoided? Do you have any tips or personal experiences to share? It would be great if you could write something about this. 

Oh, there are quite a few mistakes you can make when sewing. Using the wrong needle for the wrong fabric—that is, you should always make sure you have the right needle in the machine when you want to sew something, because using a universal needle on jersey isn’t exactly a good idea; there’s a risk of creating runs or holes, neither of which looks good. Also, always make sure you have the correct thread tension when sewing, because if it’s not right, you’ll either get loops or the fabric will pucker. Another thing that can lead to sewing mistakes is not regularly cleaning the machine of dust and lint—that can also result in poor-quality stitching.
Especially for beginners, it’s best to follow the sewing patterns exactly and not choose patterns that are too difficult. If you approach your sewing projects carefully and with attention, things should work out and turn out well. But never put your seam ripper too far away—even a pro needs it every now and then :-) ;-)

The seam ripper is the most important tool for me, because I always sew up every turning opening first.

Veronika, you can avoid sewing shut the opening for turning the fabric by inserting pins where the opening should be—that way, you’ll prevent it from getting sewn shut.
