Kindertafel 2024

Here is the new thread, please continue writing there.
Kindertafel, Part 2.

I’ll post everything I sew for the Kindertafel here, so I don’t always have to start a new thread
The first little critter is already sewn, a little hedgehog. I designed the sewing pattern myself years ago and have sewn Balduin—that’s his name—in sizes from about 3 cm to around 35/40 cm. This Balduin here is now about 20 cm

Best, Inge

Oh Inge, you’re so incredibly hard-working! Every day there’s a new stuffed animal to admire here. My current favorite is the sloth pillow. It looks sooo cuddly. You just want to snuggle your cheek right up against it.

The kids probably love the animals even more. With your little zoo—which will likely grow over time—it’s hard to choose just one.

The little white pony is cute. My son once had to sew a dog out of fur for school; it looked something like this.

Inge, you’re really hard at work sewing with those lovely fluffy fabrics. They all have a very special character of their own.

Dear Inge, you’re so hardworking. Every day, the most beautiful stuffed animals come to life in your sewing workshop. I think the big dark brown teddy bear is especially lovely. I also like his soft blue neckerchief—it really brightens up this dark little fellow. He’ll definitely be the first to go when the Kindertafel “zoo” is looking for new owners.

I was at Mr. Labus’s place at the Schweinfurt Kindertafel with my daughter today and dropped off what I’ve sewn over the last few weeks. My daughter brought along some socks and other things again, and she took the picture—she’s in it as a shadow :-) He was once again thrilled with the donations we brought

So, moving on—I created a comfort blanket myself today. I have a few animal faces on my drive that I’d like to make into comfort blankets in this style or something similar. For the back, I’m using a cotton children’s bedding cover, so that works well too.

Dear Inge, I think your comfort blankets would also make great pillows. You could cuddle with them or rest your tired head on them.

Thanks for the photo. Mr. Labus is one lucky guy. The children get so much joy from the things you’ve sewn and knitted—especially at this food bank.

Awesome! You definitely need to make more cuddle pillows. I think cuddle pillows are all-rounders. You can always have them—to cuddle with, to put in your backpack, to take to the lake, to throw at each other… every kid loves them. Stuffed animals, on the other hand, are chosen based on personal taste, but cuddle pillows—no matter what fabric they’re made of—are simply universal.
Oh, Inge, you’re the best!

Love, Ina

Girls, thank you so much for your compliments :-) I’m retired, and my husband is retired too, so we have all the time in the world to do only what we like and what we enjoy. On top of that, I turned my profession into a hobby, and I still really enjoy spending time at the sewing machine. There are also days when I don’t do anything at all—that’s just how it is.

Dear Inge, I really like the bunny pillows with the cute faces. I hope they make it to the food bank before Easter—they’d make lovely Easter gifts. But the little Dumbo with the big ears will also find a new owner very quickly once he’s on the shelf for people to choose from.

I hope you continue to enjoy sewing.

Today I’m adding a little bunny. Inspired by Ina’s book sale, I decided to take a look at what books I actually have on my shelf. :-) That’s when I came across the book “Beautiful Things from Fabric Scraps” again. The bunny is in there too, so I copied the pattern right away and sewed it.

You’ve got a fun little gang hopping around over there! Are they made especially for Easter, or did you just happen to feel like making bunnies?

You’re really going all out for Easter, dear Inge. So many Master Lampes—and each one looks different. Of yours, I like the fur best, along with the pretty orange in the ear and the pink snub nose. But there’s definitely room for improvement with the facial expression. Are there any smiling bunny faces? Oh dear, what a difficult task. But you do love tinkering, after all.

They’re all meant for the Kindertafel, Veronika. I don’t need things like that for my own grandkids anymore; except for my 13-year-old teenage granddaughter, they’re all adults.

For this, I needed the large circle, :-) either as a chair cushion or a cuddly item for the kids’ room. From my book *Hissenparade* by OZ Verlag. I bought the book when my grandchildren were still so little; I’ve already sewn quite a few pillows for them from it, and now I’m sewing for the Kindertafel from it :-)

Oh Inge, you’ve been super hard at work again. The headband turned out really nice. I made sure to look at the picture in full size: it’s knitted very evenly. The teddy bear and the hat will surely find buyers, too. I especially like the neon green accents—after all, what kid would want to wear a completely gray hat?

It’s great that you can still knit with your eyes like that. At least this way you can be a little creative, even if you can’t sew right now. It’s important to keep yourself occupied during waiting times—that way, the time goes by much faster.

Best regards, Ina
