Knitting Sweaters

Dear users and authors,
Do you have any tips for knitting sweaters / tops?

There are different approaches to knitting tops.
Some people like to knit from the bottom up, working each piece separately and sewing them together later.
Others (and I’m one of them ;-) ) prefer to knit sweaters from the top down, in the round, which saves a lot of sewing.
I find that this way, you can try it on as you go and adjust the piece to fit your own proportions well.

Also, the choice of material is important. What requirements does it need to meet, etc.? How thick, how thin...?

There are many other points to consider. I’m sure they’ll be mentioned as well. :-D

Ever since I discovered RVO (top-down raglan), that’s the only way I knit tops.
This way, I no longer have to do complicated calculations to get the measurements just right for me.
There’s also no need to sew the pieces together.
