Dear users, dear authors,
Which knitting patterns do you find difficult?

Lace patterns have their pitfalls.
Woe betide you if yarn overs disappear or are knitted where there aren’t any.
If you don’t pay close attention to the stitches and count correctly, you’ll end up with a completely different pattern.
Despite these difficulties, I love knitting lace.

That’s exactly why I’m giving up on it!

That’s right, these ajour patterns are a real challenge—you can’t just knit them while chatting or watching TV.
One mistake and the whole thing can go wrong; I gave up on them too 😉

I love them. Yes, you have to pay attention; I always count my stitches for each pattern repeat. But I usually spot the mistake quickly, and then I knit back.

You can also insert a lifeline — but I’ve never done that, so I can’t say whether it helps.

Knitting in motifs/patterns also has its pitfalls. If you carry the yarn too tightly across the back, the pattern pulls together.

I can’t seem to get the hang of Norwegian patterns—I’m just like Petra in that regard. I really enjoy knitting lace patterns, but I just can’t do it while the TV is on or if I’m distracted in any other way. When I was younger, art knitting was all the rage, and I absolutely loved it. A while back, I discovered double-face knitting, and now I’m totally hooked on it!

Just because something is difficult doesn’t mean it’s impossible to master. 😉
I like ajour patterns, challenging cable patterns, and Norwegian patterns, too.
Of course, these aren’t patterns you can just knit on the fly.
So they’re also not very suitable for a knitting get-together where there’s a lot of chatting going on.
But I think it’s great when you master a challenge, and it’s also more entertaining than just knitting garter stitch. The finished pieces are then a nice reward for sticking with it.

I like Norwegian and cable patterns; I don’t find them that difficult at all. But that’s probably because they usually use slightly thicker yarn; lace and ajour are a bit of a fiddly business because they usually involve very thin yarn.
