Express sewing without a sewing pattern: what is that?

I read something in a product description about “express sewing without a sewing pattern.” Could someone explain what that means?

My daughter was already doing that about 30 years ago; I thought I couldn’t believe my eyes. She learned it from a master tailor during her training as a ladies’ tailor. She sewed her own wedding dress back then. I measured her, then she took the measurements and transferred them directly onto the fabric only at certain points, and then put the scissors to it. I let out a scream; she just laughed and said, “Don’t worry, it’ll work out and fit.”
And that’s exactly how it was. She still does this very often today: cutting only with the measurements and a tailor’s ruler. I only dare to do that with bags. That’s the small but subtle difference in our training: she trained in the craft as a ladies’ tailor, and I trained in industry.

Hi everyone,

I haven’t sewn any clothes yet, but I sew everything else, like bags, carnival costumes
for the kids back in the day, pillowcases, pot holders, etc., without a sewing pattern.
So far, I haven’t had the patience for sewing patterns. But that could still change......

Thanks, Ruth. The dress was a two-piece ensemble consisting of a wild silk bodice, while the sleeves were made of lace batiste. The skirt had two tiers of lace batiste and one tier of wild silk. The skirt had a small cut-on train; the dress looked stunning—and it was all made without a pattern. The shawl she wore with it was on loan from me.
